Dental Tips For Christmas
12 DAYS OF DENTAL TIPS FOR CHRISTMAS
Christmas is just around the corner and if you haven’t already stocked up on treats and supplies ready for the festive season it’s time to do so!
Although this is the best time of year to indulge and eat, drink and be merry, we at Bonaventure Dental Care would like to help make sure your teeth come out on the other side as healthy as they can possibly be.
So, we’ve compiled our ‘12 Days of Dental Tips for Healthy Teeth’ – our festive fun Christmas wish list with suggestions about looking after your teeth so they remain in tip top condition during the holiday season.
12 DAYS OF DENTAL TIPS:
DAY 1 – On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me . . . a new toothbrush! Let’s start as we mean to go on. We advise our patients to replace their toothbrush every three months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed. Remember to brush at least twice a day, for two minutes. Hum a Christmas carol while you brush!
DAY 2 – Whilst we are on the subject of toothbrushes, why not stock up on some floss? As part of your dental hygiene regime, we suggest flossing at least once a day, before or after brushing. Check out last month’s blog on flossing if you need more tips.
DAY 3 – Time to start gift wrapping that pile of presents. But remember teeth are not tools. Don’t use them to cut the tape or tear paper or for ripping open your presents! Keep a pair of scissors handy. It’ll save your teeth from chips or breaking.
DAY 4 – Tree decorations are probably already up by now as Christmas starts earlier each year. But why not change the chocolate treats with either homemade sugar free treats or little gifts instead?
DAY 5 – Similar idea with advent calendars – try replacing the chocolate per day with a coin per day, a puzzle, a joke or sugar free options. Reverse advent calendars are a great idea (gifting a food item each day to donate to a local food bank). There are some great alternative ideas out there to keep the sugar content over the holiday period to a minimum.
DAY 6 – Time to plan your menu. If it’s turkey and cranberry sauce followed by Christmas cake our mouths are watering! But remember food particles and high sugar content in dried fruit will take its toll on your teeth so try and be extra vigilant with the brushing and cleaning afterwards.
DAY 7 – Beware of grazing. Yes, we know Christmas is all about eating . . and more eating! But constant nibbling is worse for your teeth than sticking to mealtimes. If you are snacking, try tooth friendly options such as raw vegetables and cheese.
DAY 8 – Meanwhile try and avoid too many sticky candies and toffee. It’s unrealistic to ban them but you can perhaps introduce dark chocolate treats or softer chocolates to minimize the damage these can cause your teeth.
DAY 9 – Go easy on the red wine! Red wine is one of the most common causes for stained teeth. Be extra careful when brushing and flossing your teeth and talk to us about teeth whitening in the New Year.
DAY 10 – Rehydrate! Keep a glass of water handy to drink after treats and food. This will not only keep you hydrated, but your teeth will thank you for the cleansing as it’ll help rinse away food particles and keep bacteria at bay.
DAY 11 – Check in for a Check-up! Get in touch now and make an appointment with us at Bonaventure Dental Care ready for the New Year to get your teeth checked and cleaned ready to kick start 2023 with the brightest, healthiest smile possible.
DAY 12 – And finally . . . Smile! Yes, Christmas can be stressful and exhausting with all the planning and financial outlay. But remember it’s about family and friends. Everything else is just topping.
We here at Bonaventure Dental Care wish you the best Christmas and hope you enjoy the feasting and festivities. We are here for any dental emergency or questions, and you can contact us via our website or give us a call on 225 753 0123.
